The Astoria Loop weekender provides a nice quick getaway exploring the "top left" corner of the state. Our quick little weekend tour will give you taste of tall Douglas Firs, the Columbia River, and Ocean Beaches. Our overnight accommodations will range from State Parks to private residences.

We start our weekend with an early Thursday afternoon getaway from Portland. Our shuttle bus drops us off so that can enjoy an afternoon ride along the Banks to Vernonia Linear State Park. Just past Vernonia we stop at a European style touring lodge where the crew will have camp waiting for us. The lodge will be open to us for meals and showers.

On Friday morning we ride through the Clatsop State Forest as we drop down towards the Columbia River. We hop a ferry ride out onto one of the islands in the Columbia River where we ride out to private farm with a view of the channel where our camp awaits us.

Saturday's ride takes us back across the ferry and to points west. We explore the farm land along the river as we try to stay off Highway 30 as much as possible. When we arrive in Astoria we ride through town to check things out on our way to our camp at Fort Stevens State Park just outside of town.

On Sunday we take some time to explore the northern Oregon coast. We ride out to to Fort Stevens and even further out to the tip of the Clatsop Spit (the Jetty at the mouth of the Columbia River). We head south while riding the side roads that parallel Hwy 101 as we try our best to stay off the latter. With a swing through Seaside we take the back roads back to Astoria.

On Monday we ride up the Nehalem River through the small towns of Olney, Jewel, and Mist - towns that most people would not recognize unless they run the Hood to Coast relay. When we get back to Vernonia we will have showers available so that you can get cleaned up before we return to Portland on Monday afternoon.

There are a couple of options with this tour. Motel accommodations can be make for the two nights that we stay in Astoria. The ultimate timing for this ride would be to coincide with the Warrenton Seafood and Wine Festival which is held the last weekend in April. A bit risky as far as the weather goes but you will have an amazing seafood feast while you are in Astoria.

Tour details may change without notice. Although you'll have an up-to-date itinerary prior to departure,
changes due to unforeseen circumstances may occur at any time.
